Easter Poem

 THAT DAY OF SORROW

COME ON A JOURNEY WITH ME TODAY,
A JOURNEY STARTING FROM HERE,
A LAND, SO DIFFERENT FROM OURS
TO A DAY, FULL OF SORROW AND FEAR.

THE TIME OF DAY IS NEARLY NOON…
THE PEOPLE CROWD ALL AROUND,
WE ARE OUTSIDE JERUSALEM
JUST LISTEN TO THE SOUNDS…

THE CROWD IS PARTING…WHAT NOW?
SEE JESUS QUITE CLEAR…
BEARING A CROSS ON HIS BACK.
STAND HERE, SO YOU’LL SEE HIM DRAW NEAR.

DO YOU FEEL THE HEAVINESS IN THE AIR…
THE CLOUDS ARE DARK WITH RAIN.
SEE OUR LORD’S FACE AND HANDS
HOW CAN HE BARE SUCH PAIN.

WHY ARE THEY JEERING AT OUR LORD?
HE DOESN’T DESERVE THIS THING.
THE OTHER DAY ON A DONKEY HE RODE...
THEN THEY SHOUTED, HAIL JESUS THE KING.

WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO HIM, TODAY?
WHO COULD HAVE CAUSED SUCH PAIN…
THE HEAVY CROSS UPON HIS BACK…
STUMBLING, STOOPING, JUST TO EASE THE STRAIN.

SO NEAR…PUT YOUR HAND OUT AND TOUCH
THE CROWN THAT ENCIRCLES HIS HEAD…
FEEL THE BLOOD FLOW FROM THORNS, SO SHARP
LOOK SOMEONE HELPS HIM, AS HE WEARILY TREADS

WE STAND WITH SORROWING WOMAN
THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO..
THE DARKNESS CREAPS ‘OR THE HILL.
SEE HIM DYING FOR ME, AND FOR YOU…

HE’S CALLING OUT… CAN YOU HEAR HIM?
FATHER, THEY KNOW  NOT WHAT THEY DO’….
THE STORM RAGES, HEAR THE RAIN BEATING DOWN
HE OPENS HIS EYES TO SEEK OUT YOU…

I DIE THAT YOUR SINS ARE FORGIVEN
STAY! YOU CANNOT HELP HIM NOW…
‘FATHER, INTO YOUR HANDS, I PLACE MY SPIRIT ’.
IT IS FINISHED’ SEE HIS EYES LOOK LOW?

WE MUST COME AWAY, OUR TIME HAS RUN OUT.
YOU HAVE WITNESSED THE SUPREME SACRIFICE..
YOU SAW HOW LONG AGO, A MAN DIED FOR YOU.
HE IS OUR SAVIOUR, OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.

DO YOU STILL WANT TO HELP?…
AS YOU WANTED TO, BACK THERE?..
THEN GO HOME AND TELL EVERYONE.
THAT YOU KNOW  JESUS DIED FOR YOU ON A CROSS…
AND IN GLORY……FOR YOU HE’LL COME.
